Congressman Scott Taylor Cosponsors Bill to Authorize Use of Military Force Against ISIS
WASHINGTON D.C.- January 31, 2017—Congressman Scott Taylor signed on as the first cosponsor of H.Con. Res 2, an authorization for the use of military force, or AUMF, against ISIS. The bill was introduced by Congressman Tom Cole (OK-4). The legislation would authorize the President to use all necessary and appropriate force to defend U.S. national security against the threat posed by ISIS, its associated forces, organizations, and persons, and any successor organizations.
Congressman Taylor had this to say about the AUMF: “It is our duty as Congressmen and Congresswomen to not hide in the weeds, but stand up and unite behind our men and women in uniform. We must have the courage to debate the merits and authorize, or not, the use of military force. We owe this to the less than one percent of our population who have gone forth over and over for the past fifteen years; those who will continue to bear our nation’s burden. I believe an AUMF is the first step in protecting Americans and taking the fight to those who would wish to destroy all that we hold dear.”
