Congressman Scott Taylor Supports Email Privacy Act
WASHINGTON D.C.- February 6, 2017— Today, Congressman Scott Taylor announced his support of the Email Privacy Act (H.R. 387). The Email Privacy Act amends the Electronic Communications Privacy Act(ECPA) to require federal authorities obtain a warrant before they are allowed access to email or digital communications. Currently the ECPA does not differentiate between public content and private, like email or texts.
Congressman Taylor had this to say about the Email Privacy Act: “Policy makers must constantly balance between individual liberties and security. With the understanding of modern communications, keeping policy up to date with technological changes, and courageous decisions, we can thread that needle. The Email Privacy Act is a step in the right direction requiring a warrant for a search in someone’s email or digital communications
