House Approves Iran Sanctions Enforcement Bill
Washington, D.C. – Today, the House voted to pass H.R. 1698, the Iran Ballistic Missiles and International Sanctions Enforcement Act, introduced by Representative Ed Royce (CA-39) on March 23, 2017. H.R. 1698 requires the President to impose sanctions on foreign persons and entities involved with Iran’s ballistic missile program and those who provide or receive conventional weapons from Iran.
"A key Iranian strategy is to enhance their ballistic missile capabilities to further their regional hegemonic ambitions," said Congressman Scott Taylor. "This continued trajectory will not only undermine regional stability but world stability, as the Iranians seek nuclear weapons and the ability to deliver them. America must act in the short term to prevent global insecurity in the long term. This bill undercuts those attempts by identifying and sanctioning the companies, banks, and individuals assisting Iran’s missile programs.”
