Rep. Taylor Joins Colleagues in Moment of Silence for Ensign Sarah Mitchell
Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Scott Taylor joined his colleagues on the House floor in a moment of silence for U.S. sailor, Sarah Mitchell, who passed away from injuries sustained in a small-boat incident in the Red Sea on Sunday.
The 23 year-old Mitchell was a native of Feasterville, Pennsylvania and a 2017 graduate of Virginia Tech. She reported to the guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG-109) on June 5, which was assigned to the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group stationed at Naval Station Norfolk.
Congressman Taylor stated, “I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ensign Sarah Mitchell. The work that our service members do around the world is inherently dangerous, and incidents such as this are a grave reminder that our military personnel are constantly in harm’s way. Ms. Mitchell died in service to our country; it is a debt that can never be repaid. Fair winds and following seas shipmate."
