A strong Nation needs a secure border. I will work with President Trump and House Republicans to equip law enforcement and border officials with the tools, technology, and support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively to keep Americans out of harm's way.
Under the Biden-Harris Administration, fentanyl poured over our borders, entering our neighborhoods in Ohio and making every state a border state. In 2021, over 5,000 Ohioans and over 70,000 Americans died from fentanyl and related substances. This is unacceptable, which is why I supported the HALT Fentanyl Act to keep not only fentanyl but also fentanyl-related substances off our streets. Cracking down on illegal aliens and smugglers entering our Nation is the first step toward ensuring our communities are safe from illicit drugs.
I am proud to support legislation like the Laken Riley Act, the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, and the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act to defend Americans against violence and drugs brought into our country by illegal aliens.
Prioritizing secure borders additionally protects our Nation against bad actors coming from America's foreign adversaries. By not holding those accountable who illegally enter our Nation, Congress risks not only the safety of Americans but our national security itself.
