Congressman Taylor Issues Statement on Schumer Shutdown

October 1, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Taylor (OH-02) issued the following statement regarding the government shutdown, which occurred at midnight after Congress was unable to pass legislation funding government operations for the new fiscal year:

“Two weeks ago, House Republicans passed a simple, short-term, and transparent Continuing Resolution to keep the government open for Americans while Democrats voted to shut the government down. Make no mistake – Republicans did our job while Democrats blocked this stopgap bill in the name of providing free healthcare for illegal aliens, repealing fraud-reduction measures, and cutting the largest investment in rural healthcare in American history. It’s clear that Republicans are the ones who have the backs of our hardworking service members, law enforcement, and American families, while Democrats insist on playing political games to appease their Far Left base. I urge my Democrat colleagues to end this nonsense quickly so our federal government can return to its job of serving the American people.”
