Data Centers

Our Buckeye State is rapidly emerging as a national hub for innovation and digital infrastructure, positioning Ohio to play a major role in America's national security and digital dominance. AI and data centers have the potential to invigorate Ohio’s economy and create well-paying jobs. But whether and where these facilities are developed should ultimately be decided by local governments and Ohio families. Development projects such as a data center are as much about economic benefit as they are about a social contract with the community that hosts them. And that contract requires trust, transparency, and a meaningful voice for local residents.

While the bulk of decisions regarding data center development rests with the state and local governments, I have focused my work in Congress on protecting Ohioans from potential rising energy costs as a result of these projects. In September, I proudly voted in support of H.R. 9340, the Ratepayer Protection Act, which would establish a federal standard for protecting consumers from surging energy costs resulting from large-load electricity users like AI data centers. Ohio families should not be left to shoulder the cost of powering massive data centers. In Congress, I will continue advocating for transparency in the development process, expanding reliable American energy, driving down energy costs, and lowering the cost of living for Buckeye families.
