Congressman Taylor Applauds President Trump’s Decision to Return Education Power to Parents and Communities
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Dave Taylor (OH-02) today issued the following statement following President Trump’s Executive Order directing the Secretary of Education dismantle the Department of Education:
“It’s time to return the authority over our children’s education to parents and communities instead of letting federal bureaucrats in Washington D.C. make decisions for families. I applaud President Trump’s decision to dismantle the woke Department of Education while ensuring the uninterrupted availability of services, programs, and benefits that schools and students depend on.
A child's education should be guided by local school districts and parents’ values, providing them with a rigorous education that sets them up for success. In the 40-plus years since its founding, the Department of Education has imposed numerous regulations and mandates that were allegedly intended to improve our education system but only created additional burdens and wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on woke indoctrination, all while national test scores plummeted. Simply put, the experiment has failed, and the effects of that failure will be felt for years to come.
American schools exist to provide students with the tools they need to be successful, and parents and communities know much more about each child’s needs than federal bureaucrats. I will continue to support the expansion of school choice across Ohio, our hardworking teachers, and the elimination of bureaucracy in the federal government as we ensure our students receive the best education possible.”
