As the sole Virginian appropriator, today my office submitted an appropriations request to fully restore the $73 million to the Chesapeake Bay Program that was reportedly removed in the President’s budget. I grew up on the Eastern Shore and close to the Chesapeake Bay, worked on farms and in a crab house restaurant.

House Legislation Provides for Interstate Competition, Ending Insurance Company Anti-Trust Exemptions

WASHINGTON D.C. — March 22, 2017— Congressman Scott Taylor voted in support of two bills that pave the way for health insurance reform. H.R. 372, the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act of 2017, introduced by Representative Paul Gosar (AZ-04), amends the McCarran-Ferguson Act of 1945 to restore the application of federal anti-trust laws to the business of health insurance.

Leaders must act. A lack of action leaves the failing status quo of Obamacare. Thursday, I will vote YEA, in support of the American Health Care Act. Dealing with healthcare is a complicated and formidable task. However, it is one issue I knew I would face as a freshman Member of Congress.

President Trump’s budget proposal is just that, a proposal; Article 1 Section 9 of the Constitution reserves the power of the purse strings to Congress. While we only have top line numbers from the President, I am happy to see the defense sequester being pushed away, but unhappy to hear funding for the Chesapeake Bay cleanup has been cut in the budget.
